New Work

I've posted this on FaceBook too. It's part of what I am calling my my "Twilight" series.

It had really grown, It began around Easter time, one flower, two leaves and a bud.

By July it had grown a second large flower and two more leaves. This October, it has finished blooming.

Sometimes it's hard to know when to stop - keep going for that matter!

And here are the matching earrings.

The pieces are made from a silver reactive glass. The flowers look blue in the picture below but they do have a metallic shine to them - depending on how the light hits them.

This glass is a challenge at least for me. To obtain the metallic sheen requires heating and reheating the glass as well as changing the flame chemistry (I guess that year of chemistry did have a purpose) from neutral to reducing.

I am also convinced, it involves the position of the planets, phases of the moon and current atmospheric conditions...

Wow!

I am posting twice in one month! Maybe there is some hope for me!

First, I want to say thank you to everyone who came by our booth and shopped with us or just came and said "hi".

Second, I want to post about my next show - it's done by Glass Act, our lampworking (flame working) guild.  We've been doing this show for at least 8 years and probably 7 at the Bloomfield HIlls location.

We will have over 20 glass artists this year. And everything from beads to finished jewelry, holiday ornaments to glass sculpture. Be sure to mark your calendar for this show.

October!

OK - there might be some hope for me and my blog!

Tonight I will be doing a demo and presentation at the "Downriver Arts & Crafts Guild" at the Southgate Library. I'm bringing my trusty old Hot Head and fire extinguisher and hope we all have a good time and I don't bore people to death.

Thursday, October 10th is the opening for "Our Town" at the Community House in Birmingham. This year the show is one day shorter - meaning it ends on Saturday the 12th! For more info, check out their website -
Our Town Art Show & Sale.

And of course I will be doing Bead Bonanza with my foxie friends - Fire Foxes Glass. Here's the info on the show -Bead Bonanza.  This show along with it's spring counterparts are the largest bead shows in Michigan and are up on by the Great Lakes Beadworks Guild.

Have not taken any pics recently but will later this week but here's a peek at one of my pieces that will be in the "Our Town" show.

The above piece is called "Bridal Tears".

The one to the right is called "My Garden". I love them all but these are two of my favorites - until the next piece!
